Duo: Setting Up Duo Multi-Factor Authentication
To setup the Duo multi-factor authentication (MFA) software on your phone, follow the instructions below. Note that the images provided are from an iPhone XS, so the images may differ slightly on your device.
First, make sure that you have the DUO app on your phone, but close it if you currently have it open.
Next, on your computer, go to https://outlook.office.com/mail and login with your district email address and password.
Find the email from “Duo Security” and click the link after the text that states: “To begin, click this link to enroll a phone, tablet, or other device:”.
You’ll then be brought to the “Welcome to DUO Security” screen. Click the Next button.
On the following “Select an option” page, click the Duo Mobile option.
On the following “Enter your phone number” page, enter your phone number in the Phone number field and then click the Add phone number button.
On the following “Is this correct?” page, confirm that your phone number is correct by clicking the Yes, it’s correct button (or click No, change it if you entered it wrong and make the change).
On the following “Download Duo Mobile” page, click the Next button. The following screen will tell you to open the DUO app.
Now, open the DUO app on your phone and, on the “Welcome to Duo Security” page, click the Continue button.
On the following “Add your account” page, click the Use a QR code button.
Your phone’s camera will then open within the app. In the ““Duo Mobile” Would like to Access the Camera” pop-up window that opens, click the OK button.
Point the camera at the QR code that should now be displayed on the “Scan this code in Duo Mobile” page in your mailbox, on your computer.
Once the app has successfully scanned the QR code, you’ll see a green circle with a white check mark in the middle appear over the QR code.
On the following “Name your account to continue” screen, click the Next button.
On the following “Name account” screen, enter a name for the account in the box below Account name. (It is set to “CSDNB” by default.)
On the following “Account linked!” page, click the Skip button.
On the following “Pro Tip” screen, click the Allow notifications button. (You can skip that if you want, but the notifications make it easier to allow your mailbox logins, instead of having to open the DUO app manually first.)
On the following “ “Duo Mobile” Would Like to Send You Notifications” page, confirm that you want to allow notifications by clicking Allow in the pop-up window.
On the “Improving your experience” page, click either the Continue button or the Turn off button. (The choice is up to you, but it makes no difference in setting your account up.)
On the following “Almost there” page click the OK button.
Now, go back to your mailbox on your computer and, on the “Setup completed” page, click the Log in with Duo button.
You should then get a notification on your phone from the DUO app indicating that you are logging into your mailbox. Click the notification, which will open the “Are you logging in to Microsoft Azure Active Directory?” page. Click the green Approve button.
Then, on the following “Stay signed in?” page on your computer, click the Yes button. (Choosing “yes” will keep you logged into the mailbox for a period of time, so that you don’t have to approve your login on the DUO app every time you go to your mail on your computer.)
