Device Locking
Good afternoon,
Because cyberattacks can happen both via network and in the workplace, a variety of cyber security solutions are required to mitigate risk.
In the workplace, leaving your computers unlocked while unattended greatly increases your risk, as this opens the door for someone to use a device in an unauthorized way, such as:
- Accessing and manipulating financial, private or confidential data
- Sending emails from your account
- Tampering or deleting your files
- Locking you out of your device
The easiest way to safeguard your data from unauthorized access is to lock your computer (or logoff from it) before you leave it unattended, especially in a classroom setting.
There are two simple ways to manually lock your computer:
- START + L: Hold the Start (Windows flag) button and click the L button at the same time (see the first image, below).
- CTRL + ALT + DEL: Hold the Ctrl button, the Alt button, and the Delete button down at the same time (see the second image, below) and then click Lock on the screen that opens (see third image, below).
Making a habit of locking your computer while you are away from it is a simple and easy way to protect yourself and the district.
